Top 5 Recommended Podcasts For Working Moms

We are back with our Top Five Podcasts related to being a working mom. Before we get into our recommendations I wanted to stress I’m a true believer that,

 “ALL MOMS WORK”

Learning Motherhood focuses on providing support for those that are pursuing a career outside of the home. I have been in both positions while it was not my choice to stay at home for a period of time I found myself in that spot after a major change in my company while I was on maternity leave with my second child. I learned very quickly that the best fit for me was continuing my career outside of the home. I used to hold guilt around the fact that I didn’t want to be at home but I no longer feel this way after realizing how I’m clearly a better mom with pursuing a career.

Individually I crave the need to have my own passion and my career has always been that for me from the early stages of knowing exactly the direction I wanted to go in upon graduating college. Pursuing a career with supporting a large organization had always been a goal and with that came so many great opportunities and significant changes. Did I have sadness when returning back to work after my first? Yes, so much! It was incredibly challenging and I struggled with navigating all that comes with this transition and identity shift. Did I contemplate the idea of becoming a stay at home mom after my first? Yes, but that was not even a financial option at the time. I did a whole blog post on my emotional struggles of returning back to work with my first child click here for more about my experience with being a new mom going through this transition.

The truth is returning back to work felt so isolating and it was hard to wrap my head around  feeling like I should be okay with the fact that I no longer would see my infant more than a couple hours at night. That I should be okay that I was pumping in a storage closet that was also made into a mothers room. The development of Learning Motherhood was in early stages at that point but even with working for a large organization there was no support for this transition as so many of us experience.

I’m thankful that there are now podcasts that talk about working outside the home for families and here are my top recommendations. Perfect for listening on the commute back and forth to work,  especially when you are pregnant and working it can feel pretty tough in terms of keeping your eyes open. Listening to good conversations between women that get it will keep you engaged and awake at the end of the day.

Superwomen with Rebecca Minkoff

What I love about this podcast is hearing how women owned organizations got their start. In each episode of Rebecca's podcast, Superwomen, celebrates collective success by exploring how leaders, artists, entrepreneurs, and advocates achieved their goals without sacrificing their multidimensionality. In intimate, share-all interviews, Rebecca uncovers the many sides of powerful women and learns how they are lifting up the women around them.

Women At Work

Women face gender discrimination throughout our careers. It doesn't have to derail our ambitions — but how do we prepare to deal with it? There's no workplace orientation session about narrowing the wage gap, standing up to interrupting male colleagues, or taking on many other issues we encounter at work. So HBR editors Amy Bernstein, Amy Gallo, and Nicole Torres are untangling some of the knottiest problems.
